For all the littlest babies, waking up to seize a new day of justice and activism. Woke babies are up early. Woke babies raise their fists in the air. Woke babies cry out for justice. Woke babies grow up to change the world. This lyrical and empowering book is both a celebration of what it means to be a baby and what it means to be woke. With bright playful art, Woke Baby is an anthem of hope in a world where the only limit to a skyscraper is more blue. [1]

Pros

In one of interview, the author told the meaning of woke up in this book. Being woke means being informed and constantly studying the world in which we are contributing to. It means ignoring the uncomfortable or digging into the ground with your own two hands to change the soil. It means unlearning behaviors that are destructive. It means relearning what equality really means. It means relearning what allyship really means. It means relearning what global citizenship looks like. It means being prepared to do the heavy lifting in communities, not just when our bank accounts, or our children’s schools are affected. And heavy lifting means deep listening and empathy. Not as a measure of being a good person, but as a measure of being a global citizen. [2]

The parents who own this book will be telling their children to stand up and fight, to get woke and stay woke about the racial issues of today. The clever message of a baby demonstrating these behaviors is a more subtle way to say what so many current books about resistance are saying this year. Fight, invite, demonstrate, show up, call, write letters, campaign, vote, revolt. This is a good motivation book for the little one. [3]
