Who What Wear is a Los Angeles, California-based fashion brand launched in 2006 by former Elle Magazine West Coast editor Katherine Power and Elle contributor Hillary Kerr that produces trend reports, celebrity style guides, wardrobe how-tos, and fashion news. The business began as a simple daily fashion eNewsletter and blog, with posts about the latest fashion news.[1]

In 2012, the two founders launched Clique Media Group (now Clique Brands), a media and marketing company, and Who What Wear became the group's first media brand.[2] In February 2016, Who What Wear partnered with department store retailer Target Corporation to launch a clothing and accessory line, along with the Versed line of skincare products, and publishes fashion books under the Who What Wear brand.[3]

Controversy

In June 2020, a revolt in the comments section occurred when the fashion and beauty site Who What Wear posted an Instagram about new initiatives to dedicate more content to black creatives and brands. Many former employees commented on the site’s historic dearth of black people on the masthead, and a company culture that blamed its lack of diversity on not enough applicants of color.[4]

A former copy editor at Who What Wear who asked not to be named wrote in an email that since company-wide summit when she asked about internal diversity and diversity in their content in 2017, too little progress has been made since then, and from what she had seen and personally experienced, Who What Wear makes zero effort to retain Black women as employees. And the ones who do stay don’t get promoted at the rate that legions of white women do.

Until now there’s no response or statement said by Who What Wear regarding the allegations.[5]
