Tower 28 Beauty

Tower 28 Beauty is vegan, cruelty-free skincare and make up products founded by Amy Liu. Their products ranging from a facial spray, lip glosses, and lip/cheek balms, all featuring ingredients that do double duty to support skin health. This beauty brand makes products with a luxurious feel, sans the luxury price tag. Every item from the brand is under $30 — most are under $20.[1]

Tower 28 is the only makeup brand to 100% follow the National Eczema Association's ingredient guidelines and avoid known irritants and allergens for those with sensitive skin, including essential oils and synthetic fragrances. Their products are Hypo-Allergenic, Non-Comedogenic, Dermatologist Tested and Gluten-Free.[2]

Tower 28 Beauty is named after a lifeguard tower in Santa Monica.

Anti-Black racism support

Suppport to Black Lives Matter

Tower 28 Instagram post on their support to Black Lives Matter

Tower 28 Beauty took to Instagram to share that it would be donating to the cause of Black Lives Matter. “At Tower 28, we are a beauty brand that talks a lot about sensitivity,” the post said. “But with so much ugliness in the world, it’s hard to talk about beauty. And in a time when insensitivity and injustice pervades, out hearts break.” The brand said it stands in solidarity with George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and all who have been affected by systemic racism and white supremacy and announced that it would donate to the ACLU, Black Lives Matter, the NAACP, and Campaign Zero.[3]

Clean Beauty summer School

Clean Beauty Summer School is a multiple mentorship program designed for clean Black-owned beauty brands as Black women have been historically underserved by the clean category.

The program was started by Amy Liu, Tower 28 skin-care founder and CEO. To help cultivate a beauty industry that is more diverse and inclusive, Tower 28 has teamed up with female founders and seasoned experts in the beauty industry to create a robust, multi-week program focused on accelerating the growth of majority Black-owned small beauty businesses.[4]

To enter, brands must be majority Black-owned, an incorporated beauty business with or without developed products, focused on clean and/or sustainable CPG products, and have three employees or fewer. Participants will attend a weekly 10-session course throughout August and early September, learning about product development and manufacturing, digital marketing, financial planning, fundraising and pitching retailers, among other topics.
Liu said she developed the mentorship program because she wanted to do more to affect change. Tower 28 participated in the Pull Up For Change challenge (there are currently no full-time Black employees at the company) and has recently donated to organizations like ACLU and NAACP.[5]
