Tory Burch LLC is an American fashion label based in New York City, New York, United States. It was founded as "TRB by Tory Burch" by American designer Tory Burch in February 2004, launching it with a retail store in Manhattan's Nolita district.[1] Since launch, the company has grown to include 250 Tory Burch stores worldwide, including flagships in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, and Seoul, and ecommerce sites in seven languages. The company’s Shanghai flagship, which launched in 2014, is its largest.[2]

Pierre-Yves Roussel, Tory Burch's husband, is the current CEO of the company.[3]

Controversy

In March 2017, Tory Burch was accused of cultural appropriation after releasing a new campaign for the brand's summer 2017 collection.[4] In a video featured on their site, Poppy Delevingne dances alongside other models to Zay Hilfigerrr and Zayion McCall's hit song "Juju on That Beat." The issue for many of Burch's fans comes with the fact that the brand decided to use a song by two black artists and not feature any models of color in the clip. The video also features a monkey in the passenger seat of the car, and the word has been used as a derogatory insult toward black people throughout history.

Tory Burch apologized in the comments section of the YouTube video, said that it was never meant to be insensitive in any way and was intended to celebrate music that they love with our spring collection. The video has since been removed from all channels. [5]
