Summary

The plot story is about Jeremy who really wants a pair of black, high-top shoes. His Grandma tells him that they can’t afford the expensive shoes because he needs winter boots. When Jeremy’s old shoes break, his guidance counselor gives him a pair of shoes that everyone makes fun of–except Antonio. Jeremy goes to the thrift stores and finds a pair of those black, high-top shoes, but they are too tiny. At school, Jeremy realized that Antonio’s shoes are duct taped together at recess. Jeremy eventually make a choice to give his shoes to Antonio. When it snows, Jeremy remembers that he has new boots. [2]

Pros

Krista Lutgring rated this book five stars because she absolutely love the story this book portrays. It shows diversity in family structures, economic funds, giving, and friendship. The young African American boy in this story learns the importance of spending money and saving money on things that we need rather than what we want to fit in at school. In the end, it was winter and he didn't even need his tennis shoes anymore and he was grateful to have his nice new snow boots [3]

One online site published their thought about this book, this book has simple illustration but in a deceptively thoughtful way, with a tone that is just right. It is highly recommended for the children. [4]
