The Bigger Picture by Lil Baby

"The Bigger Picture" is a protest song by American rapper Lil Baby. It was released on June 12, 2020, after the murder of George Floyd. In the song, Lil Baby shows solidarity with the Black Lives Matter 2020 protests calling for justice against police brutality in the United States and systemic racism.[1]

Many have called Lil Baby's "The Bigger Picture" a protest song. That's because the lyrics directly refer to police brutality, racial relationships, the divided country, Lil Baby's personal experiences as a black man in America, and more.[2]

Black Empowerment

Lil Baby expressed his feeling through the lyrics. The song begins with a voiceover from a newscaster detailing the George Floyd protest in Minneapolis, and a chant from the Black Lives Matter protesters chanting "I can't breathe." Lil baby starts rapping, telling police brutality they did against George.

I find it crazy the police'll shoot you and know that you dead, but still tell you to freeze
F***** up, I seen what I seen
I guess that mean hold him down if he say he can't breathe

And the next line that tells: It is not about black and white, which means that there is no certain relationship between a person's skin color and attributes and as a man who is aware of that he judges people based on the existence of their hearts and how their thoughts are connected.

Every colored person ain't dumb and all whites not racist
I be judging by the mind and heart, I ain't really into faces [3]

Lil Baby manages to put the line of her chorus into perspective with a simple but powerful. The chorus points to what the protesters are fighting for and he continues the optimism tells that the people needs to be changed instead of isolating one particular issue or group of individuals as the problem.[4]

It's bigger than black and white
It's a problem with the whole way of life
It can't change overnight
But we gotta start somewhere
Might as well gon' 'head start here
We done had a hell of a year
I'ma make it count while I'm here
God is the only man I fear
