Comment: quirky enough? - first DYK of author, may need care and advice in reviewing

Created by Serten (talk). Nominated by Gerda Arendt (talk) at 11:05, 25 May 2013 (UTC).

I liked the indian perspective hereSerten (talk) 11:21, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

ALT1 *... that Times of India quoted the Mayor (pictured) of tiny Triberg, Germany, complaining about his secretary's failure to park her car in the "men only", men's parking spaces, but invites women to take the challenge anyway?
ALT2 *... that according to Times of India reporter Kritika Kapoor Tribergs, men's parking spaces are not the first example for sexist parking spots?
ALT3 *... that two men's parking spaces were the reason for Times of India to report about the Mayor of tiny Triberg, Germany, his secretary, and the challenge to park a car in the local garage?
I copyedited the main and alt1 hooks. I like ALT1 the best. PumpkinSky talk 11:33, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
  • I don't think to link from within a quote is wanted, especially not for the article in question, but would like to learn differently. If we do it we do it as I tweaked further, because the article is not about "men only" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:40, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
Lets go for alt1, it has the right graspSerten (talk) 11:17, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Mayor Strobel shows the spot

Restored the original hook (sort of). The picture that was added later needs to be mentioned by (pictured) if used. The original was intended for quirky, that means without picture. The Black forest hat is very small and a joke only for insiders, my point of view, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:07, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
Thank you gerda, I got some experience with Schon gewusst, the German sister of DYK, but its quite different here. Serten (talk) 19:44, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
No problem. Where would you insert (pictured) in ALT1, 2 or 3? - IF. I think it's almost telling too much, - creating less interest in reading the article, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:03, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
Alt 1, probably better with Gallus himself Serten (talk) 14:25, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
Back to the question: where and how mention (pictured), behind "Mayor"? Would make a complicated structure even more complicated. Perhaps try to say half of what it tries to say now ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:46, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
My canary! OK behind Mayor. Thought it was just behind which alt. Over my head ;) Serten (talk) 16:35, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
  • No, we need to know exactly where it should go, example:
ALT4: ... that Times of India quoted Triberg's mayor (pictured) about his secretary trying to park her car in the "men only" parking: "Five times she tried and no success"? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:57, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
Seems youre the mayor here. I like the challenge anyway aspect, gerda ;) Serten (talk) 15:05, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

I'm not the mayor, just giving an example, feel free to play, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:30, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

  • Symbol possible vote.svg Interesting subject. However, the "Technical and local background" section is mostly unreferenced and reads like original research. This will need corrected before we proceed. --ThaddeusB (talk) 19:04, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
Technical issues are based on german newspaper articles, i will addd the sources then. OK ? Serten (talk) 09:35, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
As of today, the background section remains largely unreferenced. To be clear, sentences such as "Triberg was however somewhat in trouble, since most tourists come to the waterfalls on a day tour base and Americans, who had been quite frequent before 9/11, ceased to come and stay. Also the formerly famous local watchmaker industry is nearly completely gone." need to be supported. I'm not saying it is false, but without a source it seems like original research. --ThaddeusB (talk) 19:40, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
Should be better now. Serten (talk) 09:31, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
  • Symbol redirect vote 4.svg Needs a review. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:25, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
A[citation needed] remains. I might let it go, but it supports about 4 sentences which seem to be pretty important to the article (they describe the purpose of the spaces). --ThaddeusB (talk) 02:19, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

I have done some explanation work on the issue, sources are added. Gallus explains it en detail as well in one of the videos. Point is that the German legal enforcement is much weaker than e.g. fire hydrant parking distance in NYC. However a guy parking on a womens bay might risk scratches on his BMW if no Child safety seats are visible on the back row. OK ? Serten (talk) 01:27, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Symbol confirmed.svg There are no further issues with the article. The original hook has been verified by the inline citation. I personally am not a fan of using a quote for the hook when there is no compelling reason to do so, and so suggest the more direct "that in Triberg, Germany two challenging [[men's parking space|parking spaces are designated for 'men only
