Franz Wolf (SS officer)

  • ... that Franz Wolf, sentenced in the Sobibór trial to eight years in prison for taking part in the mass murder of at least 39,000 Jews, led a normal life in West Germany for over twenty years? (see ALTs)

Symbol possible vote.svg There are a number of problems with this DYK, but I think they can be resolved. To start with, the hook does not appear to be referenced in any of the references. Ref#1 and #2, which are most associated with the claim, doesn't even mention Wolf at all. Other references are vague about his life, and others state they don't really know. My suggestion is not to cite these (unless its easy) but rather come up with another hook that is already cited. Maury Markowitz (talk) 18:41, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
Done. Hi, Maury Markowitz. Thanks for the comments. I added five more anchors with some clarifications. Please suggest what other hook would you have in mind. I'm opened for suggestions. The fact that Wolf was a free man for over twenty years comes from the known dates of his service at Sobibor and his subsequent arrest at Eppelheim and conviction. Basic math. Looking forward to your reply, Poeticbent talk 23:47, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
I think the simplest solution is simply to remove the second half of the statement:
  • ALT1 ... that Franz Wolf was sentenced in the Sobibór trial to eight years in prison for taking part in the murder of "at least 39,000 Jews"?

but I'd also suggest...

  • ALT2 ... that Franz Wolf was sentenced in the Sobibór trial to eight years in prison for taking part in the murder of "at least 39,000 Jews", an arbitrary number?
I'm not sure that anyone cares that he lived a normal life, an abnormal life, or any kind of life. No reason to bury the lead! Maury Markowitz (talk) 00:05, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, Maury Markowitz. I like both your ALTs. My first choice is ALT2. I crossed out my original hook. A full review is needed. Poeticbent talk 12:43, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

Symbol confirmed.svg ALT2 is directly mentioned in the cites on that line. Length, newness, cites, QPQ all good to go. Maury Markowitz (talk) 13:01, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

  • Symbol question.svg I don't see anything about the number being chosen arbitrarily in the sources cited. Yoninah (talk) 20:16, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
Done. Thanks, Yoninah. I just added new source, supporting the statement about the number being chosen arbitrarily. It is a translation of the court statement, Poeticbent talk 00:21, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
  • Symbol confirmed.svg Very nice. And very good hook. ALT2 hook ref AGF (with source text noted in footnote) and cited inline. ALT2 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 00:32, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
