  • Symbol possible vote.svg Per BLP, none of these sensationalist hooks are suitable for the main page. I find them all to be in poor taste. Cunard (talk) 07:05, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Considering she announced it at a press conference, I don't think she would consider it disparaging. As a side note, most press coverage of her goes from one sex scandal to another. As some alts, perhaps ALT4: ... that Dewi Persik raised controversy for her sexually charged "saw move"? or one that absolutely complies with BLP, ALT5: ... that Dewi Persik's stage name, meaning "Peaches", is meant to draw connotations of good luck? Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:36, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Wikipedia should not be focusing on negative aspects of her life (ALT0 and ALT3: "raising controversy with 'sexually provocative' dancing and nude pictures" and ALT4: "raised controversy for her sexually charged 'saw move'").

For ALT1 and ALT2 the play on cherry is creative, though I'm certain that many readers will consider it distasteful. Perhaps more DYK reviewers can comment about this?

ALT5 is fine, though the reference to which it is sourced may be unreliable. It contains information copied across multiple websites. It is difficult to tell which website is the originator of the information. Cunard (talk) 23:38, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

  • KapanLagi is almost certainly the original source for that; it is one of the foremost Indonesian celebrity gossip sites. Now if it is true or not, I wouldn't know; I'm not an expert on Chinese culture. (But remember, verifiability and not truth) Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:10, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
  • As a celebrity gossip site, is KapanLagi a reliable source? I would not consider celebrity website TMZ.com a reliable source. Cunard (talk) 08:19, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
  • I'd avoid it for stuff like actual controversies (main-stream sources would be preferable), but to fill in the gaps I think it is reliable enough. None of the sources I saw included much background information on her; many seemed to assume the reader had heard of her. Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:35, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
And it seems that they hire people to do their reporting, unlike TMZ (the news stories tend to have a three-letter code). The profiles also seem to be under editorial control. Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:37, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Okay. I think ALT5 is fine for the main page. Cunard (talk) 08:47, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
  • I came up with another ALT while on the road: ALT6 ... that after going on a pilgrimage to Mecca, Dewi Persik stopped in Cairo to become a virgin? I kinda prefer the reconstruction surgery hook(s), as it is rather odd that one would announce it at a press conference. Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:54, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Comment: I've skimmed this discussion in days past, and I was bothered by the idea of using the hymen reconstruction surgery as a hook. However, after finally reading the article, I am astonished by the idea that a woman who has been married twice thought it necessary to be a virgin again. I have a hunch that something inoffensive can be done with this story, for example, by focusing on her hajj in relation to her desire to become a virgin... --Orlady (talk) 15:02, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Is ALT6 inoffensive enough, or does it have to be toned down further? Or something like ALT7 ... that after marrying twice, Dewi Persik became an "official" virgin? It was in the news for 3 or 4 days, and people still make comments about it once in a while. I was also surprised, not only that she did it but that she told the world about it; just found the "why" when writing the article, and that is even more surprising. Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:28, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
  • I found the "stopped in Cairo" part of ALT6 to be too cute. How about:
  • ALT8: ... that twice-married Indonesian singer Dewi Persik announced earlier this year that she had become a virgin again following a pilgrimage to Mecca?
(Note that I omitted the link to hymen reconstruction surgery. --Orlady (talk) 15:35, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
  • I had included it as there is also the secondary virginity where one chooses to abstain. I like ALT8, but would prefer adding < an "official" > to the hook in front of virgin. Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:42, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
I didn't want to include the link because the resulting emphasis on the surgical procedure is one of the things that made me a bit BLP-squeamish about featuring this on the main page. Let people look at the article if they want to delve into the technical details of her announcement. However, I have no objection to the "official" part. To wit:
  • ALT8.5: ... that twice-married Indonesian singer Dewi Persik announced earlier this year that she had officially become a virgin again following a pilgrimage to Mecca? --Orlady (talk) 16:35, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
Symbol confirmed.svg If ALT8.5 works for you, it's good to go! --Orlady (talk) 01:17, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
