Debipaksha

  • ... that in the film Debipaksha (2004), a Bengali priest named his three daughters Rebati, Haimanti and Jayanti, the names of Hindu goddess Durga?

  • Comment: Firstly, I thought to make this the hook, "... that in the Bengali film Debipaksha, a young girl gets sexually molested in front of her boyfriend?" Later, rejected it as I felt, it is "too sensitive" and it follows the "commercial trend" to use "sexual content" to attract audience. I failed to find any other interesting hook from the article, if you can find one, feel free to suggest.

  • Symbol possible vote.svg The article passes the DYK criteria for date, length and referencing. I made some minor edits but the article will need a good copy edit before hitting the front page. There are a lot of awkward sentences in the plot such as in the 2nd paragraph "Husband of Rebati, the elder daughter, died in a tram accident and she stays in her parental house. Haimanti is the couple's second daughter who is in a relation with Nikhilesh." There is also some redundancy and padding such as the first line in the plot section "The story of the film revolves around" should be simply, "The film revolves around" or "The story is about", etc. The article is at 2375 bytes so I think we can do a clean up and trim some of this padding in the plot section and still keep the article above the 1500 DYK mark. • Symbol confirmed.svg I appreciate the prompt response. The article is much improved. As noted before it passes all other DYK criteria with no signs of close paraphrasing or plagiarism and now that the copy edit is done it is good to go. AgneCheese/Wine 15:49, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Symbol question.svg From my point of view, this article fails WP:NOTPLOT as it only includes a plot. Is it possible to add some more information about this film that isn't plot? Mentoz86 (talk) 17:43, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Not specifically, but it is a notability criteria. If this article gets deleted it, it cannot be featured in the DYK :;) Mentoz86 (talk) 18:11, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
  • It won't be deleted, notable film, won few awards too (mentioned in the "Awards" section)! --Tito Dutta (contact) 18:18, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
  • A DYK criterion is that the article must be "within policy." If it fails WP:NOTPLOT it is outside of policy and therefore fails DYK. Woz2 (talk) 20:01, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
  • I have added a short theme section and made changes in lead! --Tito Dutta (contact) 20:43, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
  • "Theme" is similar to "Plot" so I think you need some more material like critical reaction. See for example Argo (2012 film). Woz2 (talk) 22:39, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
I failed to find online reliable sources for other information! --Tito Dutta (contact) 22:44, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
With all due respect, Argo is based on an historical event and was produced by a major US studio so of course there is going to be more extracurricular details than a small Indian film about a fictional story. We do need to be mindful of the systematic bias at play in trying to hold these notable, but not widely released and publicized films, to the same standards as major US films. This article is at no risk of being deleted and includes relevant non-plot details about cast, directing, musical score and awards so it is obviously more than just WP:NOTPLOT. I really see no valid reason for not letting this article dealing with a film from a relatively under-represented part of the world be featured on DYK based on a subjective interpretation of WP:NOT. AgneCheese/Wine 23:02, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
Agreed. I only used Argo as an example of the types of non-plot subject matter that could potentially dilute the present "all plot" situation. If the film is notable there must have been some reaction to it in the media of its target audience, surely? Didn't any RS write about the awards? Presently they are just bullet items. Woz2 (talk) 00:20, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
a) Did you search in Google with the film title? b) I doubt if notpolt is a core Wikipedia policy, DYK guidelines mentions:

Template:Talkquote

c) there are other information like cast etc. c) comparing a 2004 film with a 2012 film is not logical. Most of Indian digital newspaper archives don't go back to 2004. d) I have added a short section on "release" --Tito Dutta (contact) 04:20, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Let's not wikilawyer over "policy" versus "core policy." Please note I was not asking you to make this article the same as Argo. I only mentioned Argo because a) I happened to read it recently and it came to mind b) It has examples of non-plot topics that might be helpful in improving this article. The new "Release" section is one such improvement and sufficient for me to withdraw my "all plot" concern and the tag. Thanks. I think that if Mentoz also now withdraws his question mark, then you can take Agne's check mark as good-to-go. Woz2 (talk) 14:26, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
    • The article has improved since my last comment, which pleases me. But I am wondering if it is something else you can add that isn't plot. Given that the article lists two awards, maybe it is possible to add some text about those awards? Mentoz86 (talk) 14:58, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
No RS to support text about these awards! --Tito Dutta (contact) 15:30, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Symbol confirmed.svg Seeing as almost 700 bytes of additional prose has been added to the article on top of the nearly 1600 bytes of non-plot related text that was already in the article, I'm going to reiterate that this article has passed all DYK criteria.
