  • Symbol confirmed.svg I don't find any issues with this DYK nomination. Interesting and well written. Akumiszcza (talk) 17:01, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
  • Symbol redirect vote 4.svg A full review is needed that specifically mentions checking all of the DYK criteria. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:44, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
  • Template:Ping What is hooky about citing the length of the road? Perhaps you could come up with a different hook. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 00:02, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
Template:Ping There are hardly any roads in the Amazon rainforest, and this is one of the longest. But perhaps ALT1/2 below (I prefer ALT2 as less self-righteous)? Aymatth2 (talk) 00:14, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
  • ALT1 ... that paving BR-319 (pictured) may cause land invasions, deforestation and illegal mining in the Amazon rainforest?
  • ALT2 ... that Carlos Minc defended creating a "green sheath" around BR-319 (pictured)?
Template:Ping I see you took out all the single line breaks from the article. There is a reason for them: see User:Aymatth2#Line breaks. They also confused DYKReviewBot, which thought each new line started a new paragraph, hence the warning in "Some issues found", Paragraphs [12] (The ... old.) ... lack a citation. Aymatth2 (talk) 00:30, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
Oh gosh, sorry about that. I did notice that the single line breaks were not affecting the page layout after I hit "save". Thanks for the explanation on your talk page. I reverted my changes. I'm not able to finish this review till tomorrow, sorry. Yoninah (talk) 08:55, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
  • Symbol question.svg New enough, long enough, well referenced, neutrally written, no close paraphrasing seen in online English-language sources. Image appears in article and is freely licensed. Please specify which QPQ you want to use for this article; the second one doesn't seem to have your name on it at all. Regarding the hooks: ALT1 - the article does not say that paving the road may cause all these things, but that these are things they need to watch out for. ALT2 - no one outside of Brazil is going to know who Carlos Minc is; if you want to use this hook, you should identify him, and possibly strengthen the hook, as follows:
  • ALT2a: ... that Brazil Minister of the Environment Carlos Minc defended creating a "green sheath" around the 870-kilometre (540 mi) long BR-319 highway (pictured)?
Yoninah (talk) 22:50, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
  • I did all three QPQs, and have my name on them. I did three because this nomination is sort of long, and there seems to be a shortage of reviewers. I do not have any other DYK's planned, so this one cancels all three QPQ reviews. I have struck ALT1. I am fine with ALT2a, although I sort of prefer ALT2 as shorter and a bit more mysterious. A compromise could be ALT3 below. Aymatth2 (talk) 00:22, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
  • ALT3: ... that Brazil Minister of the Environment Carlos Minc defended creating a "green sheath" around BR-319 (pictured)?
  • Template:Ping Thanks for helping out with extra QPQs. I like your ALT3; however, upon running the Portuguese source through Google Translate, I see that you've closely paraphrased the wording. Perhaps you could say he "argued for" or "promoted" it, rather than "defended", which is the wording in the source? Also, doesn't the word bolsão mean "pocket"? Yoninah (talk) 01:12, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
I have tweaked the article to say "supported" rather than "defended". I struggled with bolsão verde, which would typically be translated "green pocket" or "big green pocket". For bolsão Wiktionary gives "pocket (enclosed volume of one substance surrounded by another)". Linguee gives examples like "create a pocket of poverty in the midst of a potential tourist area", "Águas Claras might be seen as a protected pocket of European-type urbanism", "the ball cage (grease pocket) is applied on the contact surface between each ball". The sense obviously is that the road should be enclosed in protected areas, and "green sheath" seemed to get that idea across better than "green pocket". I ended up in the article writing "what he called a "green sheath" (bolsão verde) around the highway". Maybe the problem can be dodged with ALT4: Aymatth2 (talk) 01:56, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
  • ALT4: ... that Brazil Minister of the Environment Carlos Minc supported surrounding BR-319 (pictured) with protected areas?
  • Template:Ping Thank you for your reasoning, and I agree with it. I suggest writing the hook similar to the way you wrote it in the article, which is quite hooky:
  • ALT5: ... that Brazil Minister of the Environment Carlos Minc supported the creation of what he called a "green sheath" around BR-319 (pictured)? Yoninah (talk) 20:31, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
  • Symbol voting keep.svg Great. Since I just combined elements of ALT3 and ALT4, I'll go ahead and approve this. Foreign-language hook ref AGF and cited inline. Image is freely licensed. ALT5 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 21:28, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
