2015 Singapore Grand Prix

  • ALT1:... that Sebastian Vettel won the 2015 Singapore Grand Prix?
  • ALT2:...that the 2015 Singapore Grand Prix saw the only retirement for Lewis Hamilton during his championship-winning season?
  • Comment: Note, If you don't like any, please ping me when changing this nomination. I am also posting this on the date it was promoted to GA status.

Improved to Good Article status by Zwerg Nase (talk). Nominated by Yoshi24517 (talk) at 18:01, 20 January 2016 (UTC).

  • Comment 1: I improved this to GA status actually. Comment 2: I find both hooks to be pretty weak. Maybe a more interesting one would be ...that the 2015 Singapore Grand Prix saw the only retirement for Lewis Hamilton during his championship-winning season?. Zwerg Nase (talk) 21:46, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
Template:Reply Same applies here as for your suggestions for the US GP and Jochen Rindt. Zwerg Nase (talk) 12:36, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
I'd like to point out that "retirement" is typically used to mean stopping working for a living; whatever the meaning here—I think it's withdrawing from the race before its finish—you're going to confuse anyone who doesn't know racing or its terminology, so it doesn't have the broad interest a DYK hook is supposed to have. Would it be correct to say "...that the 2015 Singapore Grand Prix was the only race Lewis Hamilton failed to finish during his championship-winning season?", or are there other reasons for not finishing a race that would apply to Hamilton's season? I added a DYKmake for Zwerg Nase, since it's clearly warranted; I wasn't sure whether the article's original creator, Twirlypen, had significant enough contributions to get DYK credit, so I left that DYKmake alone. Template:Reply I'd be fine with that alternative as well. Zwerg Nase (talk) 09:56, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
  • Symbol redirect vote 4.svg Full review needed now that hook is set. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:01, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Symbol possible vote.svg The only current hook is ALT2a and that's not supported by the article – the closest it seems to come is "Lewis Hamilton recorded his first retirement of the season". That statement appears in the lead but not the body and is unsourced. I'll suggest another hook as I don't like the hook focussing on a racer who didn't finish. Andrew D. Note that this hook is a play on words. His drink bottle failed during the race and so he was thirsty. But to "lose your bottle" has another meaning... Andrew D. (talk) 09:00, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

Template:Ping I needed to revert half of what you added to the article concerning the bottle since it was not supported in a source. I have in turn supported the claim from hook alt 2a in the article. Zwerg Nase (talk) 12:14, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
  • The source cited says "But with F1 drivers losing two to three litres of water in the race, Vettel was thirsty ... My drink bottle failed halfway through the race so I am quite thirsty." This was added specifically to support ALT3 and seems adequate. Perhaps Zwerg missed the detail about the fluid loss? I still prefer ALT3 as the drink failure seems to have been a significant burden in the heat of Singapore and so makes Vettel's triumph more worthy. Andrew D. (talk) 12:37, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, I indeed overlooked that and have now reinstated the content (although with different prose since the last version was too close to the source). I am pretty indifferent to which hook is chosen. Zwerg Nase (talk) 12:44, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
  • That's fine but, as I have suggested a hook and started editing the article, we need another reviewer now. Andrew D. (talk) 21:43, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
  • Symbol redirect vote 4.svg New reviewer needed; ALT2a and ALT3 need to be checked after recent edits. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:51, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
  • Symbol confirmed.svg Both ALT2a and ALT3 are acceptable hooks within the rules of DYK. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:49, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
