Seven Seconds Cover on Netflix

Seven Seconds is a crime drama tv series directed by Yury Bykof, based on the Russian movie The Major, this series first released in February 2018 on Netflix. [1] Seven Seconds takes on these themes: the tragedy of Black death and the aftermath of turmoil in the struggle for some semblance of justice. It is a timely drama that investigates different points and roles to illustrate the tangled snare of a framework that frequently fails Black Americans.

Plot

A white police officer, Pete Jablonski, accidentally hit a black teenager, Brenton Butler, with a car. That accident raises the racial tensions in New Jersey city. Jablonski, full of guilt, needs to report what occurred, yet his police officer's friend persuades him that people, in general, would not warmly embrace a white cop killing a black kid, regardless of whether it was an accident. In the meantime, KJ Harper, a black assistant prosecutor with a drinking issue, is appointed to work on the case. She works closely with Brenton’s mother Latrice, who finds there might be more to her child than she and her husband knew about. [2]

Controversy

Everyday modern American racism is perfectly illustrated in Seven Seconds. It shows how cowardly some of the people who are supposed to serve and protect every citizen can be. One thing that this show doesn't do is provide any solution for how Americans can fix the underlying issues that lead to these unjust legal proceedings. [3]

The fact that the family is not being taken seriously by the police, they are mostly left in questions than getting answers and how they are having hard times due to their skin color. The issue of racism, and the failure of the justice system to ensure Black lives in the United States, goes past instances of police brutality and cop acquittals. Various investigations have set up that racism is embedded within our system, and its roots run deep. Through the Black Lives Matter movement, and the current wild political environment, a magnifying glass set over the issue of race relations and African American abuse in America. [4]
