Black Empowerment

Morello wrote the song Marching on Ferguson in response to wake people’s awareness of the chaotic incident in Ferguson, Mo., relating the death of Michael Brown on August 9, an unarmed black teen who was shot with local police. This song is to support the Ferguson October movement, the singer offered the song for free while engaging people to donate and help contribute to defense funds for protestors who got jailed during the demonstrations.

"100 percent of the profits from 'Marching on Ferguson' will support defending the protesters in the Ferguson area who have faced attacks, wrongful arrest and violence from the police. I've witnessed countless incidents of racially motivated police brutality in my lifetime, and it's time to say 'enough' in the name of all those wrongfully killed and abused, for all the courageous men and women raising their voices against injustice in Ferguson, and beyond, give 'em hell. This song is for you," writes Morello in a statement. [3]

He also has mentioned the incident on his Twitter account, he tweeted : “Against death penalty but if instituted 4killer cops, corporate criminals &presidents who go to war under false pretense might be deterrent?” [4]

The rock anthem’s lyrics depicts a paint of the frustration and anger that happened over the past months in the small St. Louis suburb. [5]

No peace and no patience

I'm under surveillance

Wish I woulda paid less

Different glove, same fit

I'm marching on Ferguson

I'm marching tonight [6]
