FTP, the acronym of “Fuck the Police” is a single released on June 2, 2020 by rapper YG. The song was written by DJ Swish, Larry Jayy, and the Californian rapper, YG, as for joining the nationwide protests in regards to George Floyd’s death in May 2020. The song targeted police brutality inequitably affecting Black Americans.

YG took his Instagram to first announce the new track released on June 1, 2020. Additionally, this is not the rapper’s first song about police brutality. He dropped two single, in 2016, both in March and June, “Police Get Away With Murder” and “FDT (Fuck Donald Trump)”. [1]

Key Lyrics

Fuck the police, that's how I feel

Buy a Glock, break down the block

That's how I feel (That's how I feel)

Murder after murder after all these years

Buy a strap, bust back after all these tears

Mommas cryin', how they gon' heal? (How they gon'?)

How you would feel?

Fuck silence, speak up bitch, this shit ill

(Big-big) Big stick on me, y'all kill, we kill

Been tired, fuck cardboard signs, we in the field

It's the Ku Klux cops, they on a mission

It's the Ku Klux cops, got hidden agendas

It's the truth, I won't stop

Open cases, police already hate me, why not

Make your rich-ass city look like trash (Look like trash)

To whoever make the rules, we need answers fast

Oh they mad, fuck it, let's make 'em mad (Let's make 'em mad)

Without that badge, you's a bitch and a half [2]

Black Empowerment

The single is as a response to the nationwide protests. Fighting against racial inequality, the rapper pours his concerns into song for political activism.

It aims at law enforcement, with his personal experience of being arrested and speaking and speaking to what he has been seeing, either in front-lines or in the news as the social unrest continues. "It's the Ku Klux cops, they on a mission/It's the Ku Klux cops, got hidden agendas," raps the 30-year-old. [3]

The video shows black-and-white, honoring victims of police brutality with footage from BLM and anti-police violence protests around the nation. [4]
