Esme & Roy is an American/Canadian animated children TV series produced by Nelvana and Sesame Workshop. The show was created by Dustin Ferrer and Amy Steinberg, and aired on HBO and Treehouse TV in the United States and Canada, respectively. There are currently 2 season, with the first season released on August 2018 and the second season premiered on June 2020[1]. The show is targeted towards ages 4-6, and teaching kids about managing their emotions to overcome big challenges and scary situations[2].

Plot

The series follows the two best friends titular character Esme, a Black little girl (voiced by Millie Davis) and her monster companion Roy, that go on a journey in their make believe world as the best monstersitter in Monsterdale[3].

Empowerment

The article also pointed the subtlety as how the show portrays Esme as a regular awesome kid who happens to be black. The show highlighted the importance of play, trying new foods, and embracing differences[4].
