Summary

It's Sunday evening and dinner is over. Beth is excited and heads to the sofa. Daddy is there with a smile and a chair, "Daddy", she asks, "will you please do my hair?" Join Daddy and Beth on a wonderful hair adventure in this heart-warming story, which celebrates the unique and special relationship between a father and child. The perfect rhyming picture book read for every family, this is a book to be shared time and time again. [2]

Pros

The story is nicely told in couplets. Though a couple of the rhymes are forced and one or two rhymes are slanted, the story is an easy read most parents will not mind reading many times. Young girls, especially African-American girls, will love this sweet moment. It is nice to see a story with non-white characters. Unfortunately, there are not enough of these stories, making even the moments in time treasurable and also it has bright illustrations. A beautiful, engaging, easy-to-read story that lovely to read to young children before bedtime. Debate about why there isn't more diversity in children's literature, why more characters and protagonists can't represent a wider range of demographics and so on are often heard. Now, this book is the solution! Daddy Do My Hair? is a series of books celebrating diversity, children's right to be accepted, self-esteem and confidence, natural hair, beauty, but also fatherhood and parenting.[3] This book serves as an important reminder that special times and fun can be had when doing what may seem like the most routine of tasks.[4]
