Cartoon Network (often shortened to CN) is an American cable television network owned by the Kids, Young Adults and Classics division of Warner Bros. Entertainment, itself a subsidiary of AT&T's WarnerMedia through its Studios and Networks Group division.

The channel was launched on October 1, 1992, and primarily broadcasts animated television series, mostly children's programming, ranging from action to animated comedy. It currently operates from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT) and is targeted at children between ages 6 to 14. Its overnight daypart block Adult Swim is aimed at adults and is treated as a separate entity for promotional purposes and as a separate channel by Nielsen for ratings purposes.[1]

Don't Deny It - Defy It is PSA video by Cartoon Network made to create more awareness about what is black racism in community is. This one minute length video was debuted on October 27, 2020[2] and written by Rebecca Sugar and Ian Jones-Quartey in collaboration with Dr. Kira Banks, Dr. Allen E. Lipscomb and Deborah J. Johnson, PhD. Dr. Allen Lipscomb is a specialist in providing anti-oppressive inclusive mental health services to individuals and families of color.[2] By this article created, the video already watched one million times in Cartoon Network's Youtube channel and 1.4M views on Cartoon Network's Twitter.[3][4]

In the video white kid tell his friends that black race can not married white, Garnet (voiced by Estelle), one of the Crystal Gems appeared and said to kid "Don't be racist". The other white kid said "This stuff like this doesn't actually happen in real life" and the black-skinned kid said sadly "Are you kidding? It's totally does". "Just because this has never happened to you, doesn't mean it doesn't happen", said Steven. The the black-skinned kid add, "You gotta realize it hurts to deal with racism and when people act like it's not real it makes it feels even worse". "You have to acknowledge racism to work against it", powerful closing statement from the video.

Cartoon Network PSA - Tell the Whole Story

Tell the Whole Story is PSA video by Cartoon Network made to create more awareness about black inventors, heroes, and leaders are often left out of history. This almost 2 minutes length video was debuted on December 3, 2020 written by Rebecca Sugar and Ian Jones-Quartey in collaboration with Dr. Kira Banks, Dr. Allen E. Lipscomb and Deborah J. Johnson, PhD. Dr. Kira Banks is a clinical psychologist, who is also a co-founder of the Institute for Healing Justice and Equity and served as a racial equity consultant for the Ferguson Commission. She also hosts the vodcast “Raising Equity” that focuses on raising children with equity mindsets.[5] By this article created, the video already watched 465.000 times in Cartoon Network's Youtube channel and 1.4M views on Cartoon Network's Twitter.[6][7]

This video mentioned about how black inventors, heroes, musicians, fighters are often mentioned and how history and text books are more prioritize white people accomplishment. The video also criticism is the history modified to make white readers comfortable and left out black people out of credit.

Developed by “Steven Universe” creator Rebecca Sugar and “ O.K. KO! Let’s Be Heroes” creator Ian Jones-Quartey, the PSAs are intended to help kids and families have productive conversations about racism. Each of the four PSAs will feature a different character from “Steven Universe.”[8] The series of PSAs will be released bimonthly and shared across Cartoon Network’s YouTube and social media channels. This campaign not only take place at Youtube and Twitter but also viral in TikTok.[5]

Public Reactions

Among the individuals who are sharing the TikTok spot are retired professional basketball player-turned-influencer Rex Chapman said "Cartoon Network for the win" and fashion designer Kenneth Cole said "This is great". Barnes & Noble also said “Thank you.”[5]

Cartoon Network’s PSA was met with a flood of positive response, support and praise on social media, and rightfully so.
