Key Lyrics

Voices call

They call out my name, my name, my name

They say I'm different

Well I'm not the same, the same

You say you want to, ah, be like me

Well, boy, let me tell you…

You don't know what I've seen

They say a devil lives in my soul

I promise not to let him take control

I'm mindin' my own business

I ain't doin' nothin' wrong

I ain't doin' nothin' wrong

Shadows follow so close behind me

I look in the mirror…

I don't like what I see

Whoa, God, can't you help me

Get outta here? Here

I feel like I'm living

Deep in Hell [2]

Black Empowerment

The song itself was about racism and to remind others to mind their own business. In early 1998, the song was in the top 30 on the US Rock Chart. [3]

In an interview with Ink 19, the drummer, Morgan Rose, said that the song is not strictly talking about racism, "If people would mind their own business, the world would be a better place. Everyone's trying to stick their nose in everybody's business, instead of worrying about themselves."

This debut single was also the band’s first song that they had done together as a band, "It was one of the first songs that we had done together as a band. By the time we got a record deal, we had probably played it 500-600 times and we were just kinda tired of it. It was the last song we played for our label and the producers and they all just laughed and [said], 'You guys are funny, man. That's the best song of the bunch.' And we were like, 'No, it's not.' And they're like, 'Yes, it is – watch! This song will stick around for a long time.' And you know what? They were right! (laughs)" [4]
