A Feather in His Hare is an animated short produced Warner Brothers Looney Tunes back in 1946. Directed by Chuck Jones, it was originally released on February 7, 1948. The title is yet another pun on "hair", playing on the Native American warrior custom of earning feathers to wear in their hair for courageous acts.[1]

Plot

The plot maybe a twist on the standard Elmer-chasing-Bugs cartoon, with the bunny's pursuer in this cartoon is a dopey Native American. The Indian's body shape and the glasses he wears, counsel that he is meant to be a parody of Ed Wynn, although the voice does not match.

Most of the cartoon is spent with Bugs getting vengeance by "thinking up some more deviltry for that Apache." At the climactic moment, Bugs, stare at the camera, says "Imagine this guy! Just who does he think he is to be chasin' me?", the Indian answers, holding arrow pointed at Bugs, "Me? Me last Mohican!". "Last of the Mohicans, eh?", Bugs says, "Well, look, Geronimo, cast your eyes skywards." Looking up, he sees several storks carrying infant versions of the goofy Indian, and passes out.

Bugs, laughing manically and he cast his own eyes skyward. Bugs sees many of storks carries infant bunnies, who shout, in unison, "Eh, what's up, Pop?" Bugs later passes out joined the unconscious Indian.

The Controversy

This cartoon included along with another eleven cartoons that pulled from Cartoon Network's annual June Bugs marathon back in 2001 by order of AOL Time Warner because of ethnic stereotyping. It wont to be regularly shown on Cartoon Network's Looney Tunes compilation shows (specifically Bugs and Daffy and The Acme Hour), but it features a stereotype of a black Native American which some consider offensive.[2] Not forget to mentioned black Native American in this short described slow witted and stupid.
