The Stanley Parable
The Stanley Parable was first available in 2011. Then, the developer Davey Wreden working together with modeler Will Pugh for creating a remastered version with new environments, which then released on Steam in 2013. [1] The gameplay involves guiding a silent protagonist named Stanley alongside narration by British actor Kevan Brighting. As the story goes on, the player is confronted with separate routes. The player may take a different route than the narrator's directions, which if the player disobeys it will then be incorporated into the story. Depending on the choices the players made, the player will face different endings before the game starts again to the beginning. The remake recreated many of the original mod's choices while adding new areas and story pathways. Both the original mod and the remake have received critical praise from journalists. Critics praised the game's narrative and commentary on player choice and decision-making. [2]
Controversy
There is a particular image during gameplay that appeared to show a young black child being immolated by a whiter-than-white businessman.
The image comes as part of a slideshow of sorts, highlighting the nature of choice in the most extreme way possible. Over the top of the image, naming the man Steven, it reads:
"He could spend years helping improve the quality of life for citizens of impoverished third-world nations, or he could systematically set fire to every orphan living in a 30-kilometer radius of his house."[3]
