The Jackson 5ive is a Saturday-morning cartoon series on ABC aired from 1971 to 1973 for 2 seasons. The show was produced by Rankin/Bass Animated Entertainment and Motown Productions[1].

Empowerment

The show was arguably one of the first series with non-stereotypical Black characters during the Black power movement of the 1970's. The series premiered at the height of fame for the group and was part of an outstanding lineup of Saturday-morning cartoons. The Jackson Five afros were a symbol of Black pride and represented a positive Black family in mainstream media. Despite the voice over is not from the member of Jackson 5, the show is able to capture and portrays each personalities of the Jackson Five. The animation director Robert Balser made it crucial that the show will not include any violence or stereotyping.[3].
