The Black 14 is an American Documentary movie who released on 2018 in United State of America and directed by Darius Clark Monroe. Based on true story of 1969 Wyoming Cowboys football team this documentary film tells about what happened when a group of college athletes decided to protest a long-standing racial injustice.

Plot

The black football team

In the new documentary, "Black 14," filmmaker Darius Clark Monroe goes back in time to 1969 and tells the story of 14 black student athletes who were dismissed from the University of Wyoming's football team for taking a stance against racial harassment and racial discrimination in the Mormon church.

Their dismal sparked student-led protests throughout the Western athletic conference and garnered national media attention. Composed entirely of archival footage of the 1969 campus protests, Monroe examines white identity and cognitive dissonance via media coverage of this actual event.[1]

Black Empowerment

Even though all the 14 players kicked out because of their bravery in order to stand black solidarity, the black 14 has inspired people and make some good impact or just letting people know about the issues.

"The dismissals were covered nationally by television networks and newspapers, including an article with pictures in the November 3rd issue of Sports Illustrated. The Denver Post carried an editorial asking whether football was more important in Wyoming than human rights."

Black Racism

In this film depicts the 14 black players wear the black armband to stand in solidarity with the Black Students' Alliance (BSA) who had plans to protest during an upcoming game versus Brigham Young University (BYU). Because The BSA announced planed to protest UW's participation in the game because of a tenet held by the church that owns BYU which then provided that African-Americans could not ascend to the priesthood.[4] But the coach not supporting about the protests. Rather than work with the students, Wyoming coach Lloyd Eaton kicked them all off the team.[5]
