The Affair was released on October 14, 1995 directed by Paul Seed. The American romantic drama stars Courtney B. Vance as an African-American soldier in the U.S and Kerry Fox as a British officer’s wife, in which the two had a scandal when the black soldier was sent to England during World War II. [1]

Plot

Set in the beginnings of the integration of America’s Negro soldiers to England during World War II. A forbidden love story between a black US negro having an affair with a white woman whose a British officer. A tragic love story of war, desire, love, and injustice. [2]

Controversy

Having a different racial romance at that time was tough. People start to have prejudices, especially with black people. Discriminations and unfair treatments over them.

In the film, at one scene Maggie, British officer’s wife, is white aims to end her affair with a black U.S. Negro soldier, Travis. She meets Travis and makes love for the last time. Worried at her absence, her husband seeks her and finds out that the two were in the act of love-making. Maggie’s husband jumped into a conclusion that her wife was being raped. He then soon attacks Travis and takes him to the police by reporting a rape. Travis then got arrested. [3]
