Controversy

Jokes and comedy that runs around this movie is based on race.

The movie jokes are really based on race, especially the Earl remarks which are either regrets on the exploitation of his race or converse prejudice comments that verge in all out attack mode and would surely never be permitted to pass if the lines had been given to his white co-star.[3] Earl himself questions the reason why white people expect black people to act as bad as possible, while he cannot mock while people the way they are being mocked. It just makes thing worse, here is some example

Hank: Do you know how to hot wire a car?

Earl: what, you think because i'm black I can hot wire a car

Hank: Well can you?

Earl: Yeah! but not because I'm Black

(Dugan, 2003)

There is also a scene where Earl has trouble reaching his car keys, but he is suspected as a car robber simply because his skin is black. He is being accused by white cops and have the scene recorded by people where it goes to the news media.[4]
