Lataillade shared details of a "Serena" codeword being utilized to recognize these customers who were then to be observed cautiously and followed while shopping. Lataillade additionally mentioned an experience with the claim in which the store called the police on a “suspicious” black male who was actually a signed recording artist. Also, Lataillade claimed regional manager took photographs of client over and over and would not permit clients marked "Serena" to try on clothing items. Lataillade believed she was unjustly terminated based on discrimination after she reached corporate with a complain about administration about the management - asserting “ongoing and atrocious harassment and discrimination based on her status as a Black, Haitian American woman.” Although it was not revealed, the term may refer to Serena Williams.[4]
