Summary

The story tells about a young black girl named Winifred Schnitzel. Nothing frightens her but she does need her sleep, and the neighborhood monsters will not let her be! Every night they sneak in, growling and belching and making a ruckus. Winifred constructs clever traps, but nothing stops these crafty creatures. What's a girl to do? (Hint: Monsters hate kisses!) The unpredictable sweet ending will have every kid and little monster begging for an encore. [1]

Pros

The character is a little black girl and she is lovely. The illustrations are bightly colored and nicely drawn to depict child-like features. The monsters are not scary looking at all. This is a great book to have in your collection. [2]

Violet as one of the book reader gave her thought about this book, she mention that Winifred Schnitzel is a wonderful protagonist. She's tough, inventive, clever and sweet, and she is never afraid. The meter and rhyme (almost) always work, and the story flows incredibly well. And she loved anything that uses the word 'moot' in proper context. The illustrations are beautiful, fun and engaging, and she loved that Winifred is a girl and a person of color. It's a definite bonus in a sea of books about little boys, mostly white, who usually get the action packed monster stories in children's books. [3]
