Pros

An online compilation reviewed showed how precious this book is. It was good to know and remind them of how special and great they are, a happy feeling that the readers felt when they read this book. It played an important role in the childhood, and getting it again was emotional. All black children should be exposed to books and poems like this. They are planning on to passing it down. This poem book is lovely and has a great collection of poems. It's nice for Black History Month.[3]

The illustrations in this book were lovely. The poems were perfectly suited for children, especially those from a black background. It is wonderful to learn about a cultural background that children have no experience with. The poems vary in subject matter and the poets are varied as well. There are even small biographies of the different poets at the back of the book, making this an educational as well as a creative reading experience. This book teaches the children about diversity and how to treat other they way they would like to be treated. It definitely took a lot of learning experiences from this poem if the children learning a unit on bullying and being culturally diverse. Showing the children that skin color isn't a factor in which you should be treated either good or bad. There is such deep content used in this poem and even throughout the entire collection.[4]
