Summary

This will be the second title in Lauren and Tony Dungy’s series of children’s books which feature great stories that remind kids of the importance of family, friends, confidence, determination and believing that anything is possible if you dream big. In this story, Jade has been planning to have her birthday party at a water park, but her new friend, Hannah, is in a wheelchair. Now Jade has a decision to make: Is it more important to keep the celebration where she planned, or to make sure all of her friends will have fun? Parents and their children will love reading and discussing this beautiful book, which celebrates the talents and strengths we all have, no matter our physical ability. [2]

Pros

This book had reviewed by Cristina as one of the readers. She spoke that this book only a couple of words of Spanish. Family seems to be a generic representation of a "latino" family, which mixes PuertoRican or Cuban idioms, Mexican food, and Spanish dancing (tango). It's nice to see Afro-Latinos represented, but she would have liked to see a little more cultures in this book. [3]

the fact of this book was the family is Afro Latino and perhaps therefore are immigrants to this country. Or perhaps they still live in their native land. Yet, these are just a few ways to interpret the setting. In the end, Kitchen Dance is a bed time story. It is a book that shows people that might look different from most of the people reading, but in the end are just like most people, they love, they have fun, they are a family. Bright colors and sweet text is what makes this book special. [4]
