Plot

Just Mercy follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Jordan) and his fight for equality to change the world. Bryan should have had his choice of prestigious positions after graduating from Harvard. Instead, he goes to Alabama to defend those falsely sentenced. One of Stevenson’s first cases is Walter McMillian cases in 1987. Amid mounting evidence supporting his innocence, McMillian was sentenced to death in Monroeville, Alabama, for the murder of a young white woman.

Controversy

Just Mercy is a movie that shows the power of optimism and the importance of patience and grit in resisting anti-black racism. Stevenson shows how to fight for proving McMillian who is falsely accused of murdering an 18-year old girl. McMillian was charged due to his black racial although the evidence shows that he was innocent. Despite all favors, he defiantly baffles the whole colonial scheme by ultimately trusting the rule of law as well as a higher force. After six years on death row, McMillian was released in 1993 when prosecutors eventually acknowledged that he’d been the victim of falsified testimony and evidence improperly reserved.[3].
