Pros

This is an excellent book to help children in counting from one to ten. There are delightful and colourful illustrations to go along with the story. It would be a great story for Early Years and KS1. The children could also put the story in order through what they have learned in the book, revising what Hando and Akeyo see first or they can modified the animals as they wanted. [2]

Loren as a book reviewer gave her comment about it, she mention that Handa’s Hen is a lovely little book which goes through the numbers from 1 to 10 in a discrete yet educational way. The sequence of the book is clear and easy to follow, with the numbers increasing by one on each page when they come across a different animal in their search for Handa’s hen. The illustrations are clear and presents the numbers in a beautiful way which will allow easy visual representation of both the different numbers and the difference between them. This book also provides a good representation of another culture which the students may not have come across yet. [3]
