Guess Who is based on William Rose’s Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner in 1967. The American comedy film was released on March 25, 2005, directed by Kevin Rodney Sullivan, starring Bernie Mac, Ashton Kutcher, and Zoë Saldaña. Contrary to the Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, this film is about a black woman marrying a white man. [1]

Plot

A young black woman, Theresa Jones (Zoe Saldana), is about to introduce her white fiancé, Green Simon (Ashton Kutcher) and bring him to her parents’ wedding anniversary celebration. However, the truth about Simon is white is totally unknown by Theresa’s parents.

This brings out everyone’s surprise, especially to Theresa’s father, Percy Jones (Bernie Mac). Having trust issues with someone outside their, making things seem complicated.

Soon, Percy starts to investigate Simon’s life and discovers that Simon’s just lost his job without being known by Theresa.

Mistrust shows its truth, amidst Theresa and Simon’s argument, Theresa’s parents at odds.

Based on Theresa’s parents, especially her father’s reaction about her having engaged with a white man shows that intercultural marriage is still considered taboo. Her father’s mistrust issue may lead to how the major community treats black people in the society.

According to reelviews, it is impossible to discuss Guess Who movie without mentioning race as the foundation of this film is based on a cultural bias that still exists in surroundings against interracial marriages. [3]
