Summary

When Grandmother Mimi comes to visit, she continuously brings warm embraces, sweet treats and her handbag. You never know what she'll have in there--fancy jewelry, tokens from around the world, or something extraordinary just for her granddaughter. It might see like a typical pack from the outside, but Mimi and her granddaughter know that it's pure magic. In this lovable, enthusiastic tribute to visits from grandmother, adored picture book made by Vanessa Brantley Newton shows how an ordinary day can ended up extraordinary. [2]

Pros

Grandmas and their handbags are something famous for their granddaughter. This book brought back recollections (particularly of things like fuzz-covered mints and gum; they're like important or something). The illustrations in this book are basically delightful. What's in Grandma's purse will be interesting. Her flip-phone was particularly clever. [3]. Grandmother Mimi wears huge, round displays and includes a towering, white Afro, whereas the storyteller sets her elegant top with jeans—it’s simple to see she gets her sense of fashion from her grandmother. Whereas the narrating wavers slightly and needs subtlety, a clear sweetness of the story more than makes up for it [4]

Abigail as one of the reader giving her review about this book, she said the third picture-book both written and illustrated by prolific African-American picture-book craftsman Vanessa Brantley-Newton, Grandma's Satchel addresses a number of subjects, from the ways in which young children mirror their elders to the near and loving bond between eras of the same family. The story itself is sweet, and the work of art, made using gouache and charcoal pencil, is colorful and entertaining. Suggested to anybody looking for picture-books around grandmas, particularly in case they're searching for stories highlighting African-American families. [5]
