Controversy

There is one scene when Molly feels frightened as she returns from school. Molly was mocked by her friends for adding Corrina to the family portrait. [2]

At the time of 1959, the movie implies that Corrina who is a recently graduated college student cannot find any other decent job because she is black. She is overqualified for her job as housekeeper, but has many qualifications for being Manny’s lover. [3] Sadly, Manny and Corrina live in the United States where racism everywhere at that time. This hurtful truth slaps the reality that Corrina cannot be more than a maid which threatened them to tear apart. [4]
