Pros

A user named L-Angelica Herrera-Vest rated this book four stars because she enjoyed it and found that the text did not read like poetry, it read like a story. She, personally, was not a fan of poetry. She enjoyed this book because it was about a person in history and she did like the historical fiction genre. She had never seen a book that was based on Coretta Scott, so it was interesting to read about the Civil Rights Movement, from a different perspective. The illustrations by Kadir Nelson are rich, realistic and colorful. Visually the book is amazing. This book can be used to introduce a lesson on the Civil Rights Movement to young children. Merry Jelks-Emmanuel had the same thought as her, she added this book was beautifully illustrated story covers the life of Coretta Scott and the wife of Martin Luther King Jr. on their journey towards Civil Rights. It was inspiring and Motivational which makes for an excellent resource for not only Black History but Women's history as well. [4]
